Optum Expands TMS Coverage for Teens Ages 15+
We’re excited to share that Optum Behavioral Health has expanded coverage to include Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for adolescents ages 15 and older, effective January 1, 2026.
Encouraging news for improving access to mental health care
Beginning March 6, Cigna/Evernorth will remove prior authorization requirements for in-network Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Reducing administrative hurdles helps patients begin treatment more quickly and with fewer barriers.
This continues a broader expansion of access through coverage decisions that:
• Recognize moderate — not just severe — depression
• Extend eligibility to patients age 15 and older
• Include OCD treatment indications
When insurance coverage better reflects clinical evidence, patients benefit — and that’s progress worth acknowledging.
